I had a bit of a mixed experience at the Athenaeum Intercontinental. The hotel had some solid features like spacious rooms and a nice buffet breakfast, but I ran into a few problems with the service and the overall age of the rooms. The location was okay, but not super close to the main attractions, which made it a bit inconvenient for sightseeing. Overall, I'd say it's decent but not really up to the five-star hype.
Rooms
6.0
The rooms were spacious but felt old and could use a refresh. I changed rooms two times due to issues like smell and wallpaper peeling. The bathrooms, however, were more modern, which was a plus.
Service
5.0
While some staff were really helpful, I did have a rough patch with room service when I called for breakfast. The person on the line didn't seem very interested in helping me, which was frustrating. Also, the promises made about lounge access and pool facilities didn't really pan out the way they were supposed to.
Location
5.0
I found the location to be a bit sketchy, with some streets that felt unsafe. It was about a 20-minute walk uphill to major attractions, which wasn't the most pleasant trek, especially in the heat. I think it's better suited for business than tourists wanting to be in the heart of the action.
Dining
6.0
The breakfast buffet was pretty great with a wide variety, but the options in the club lounge were repetitive and could definitely use improvement. I ended up feeling a bit disappointed with the dining choices during my stay.
Facilities
6.0
The facilities were mostly okay, but the pool area was quite small. I enjoyed some time at the rooftop restaurant, which was a highlight, especially with the views of the Acropolis, but overall, I felt like the hotel was showing its age.

My stay at Athenaeum Intercontinental was mixed. The hotel staff's friendliness was a highlight, and I particularly loved the shuttle service that made exploring Athens easier. However, the location wasn't ideal for a leisurely walk to major sights, and the breakfast could've had more variety. Overall, it was a nice place to unwind after my adventures.
Rooms
8.0
The room was spotless and spacious, providing a comfortable retreat after busy days. However, the decor felt a bit dated, and the pillows weren't the most comfortable at night.
Service
10.0
The staff went above and beyond to ensure I felt welcomed and had everything I needed. I appreciated the quick responses from the concierge and the overall attentiveness of the team throughout my stay.
Location
6.0
While the hotel is relatively close to main attractions, the walk to central sights like the Acropolis was along a busy road and not the most pleasant. I found myself relying on taxis more than I anticipated.
Dining
7.0
I tried the a la carte breakfast, which had good options, but it could get a bit repetitive. The rooftop restaurant offered great Mediterranean dishes, and the views were stunning, especially at dinner.
Facilities
7.0
The amenities were decent, with a nice pool area for relaxation after sightseeing. Room service was prompt, which was a plus, but the bar cocktails at the rooftop did leave a bit to be desired.

During my stay, I appreciated the spacious rooms and beautiful view of the Acropolis. however, the dining options left much to be desired. The breakfast choices were good, but the management's lack of enforcement regarding hygiene precautions made me feel uneasy. especially in light of the current situation.
Rooms
6.0
My room was quite large and had a lovely view, but the smell and some peeling wallpaper in a few areas left a less than polished impression.
Service
6.0
The staff were a mix. some were exceptionally friendly and accommodating, while others seemed short-tempered and not very helpful.
Location
5.0
The hotel's location was a bit tricky. it required a ten-euro cab ride to the city center, and wasn't the most pleasant walk up to major attractions.
Dining
5.0
Breakfast had a decent variety, and I particularly enjoyed the Greek coffee and olive oil. but the quality and diversity of food offerings could definitely be improved, especially at the bar and other dining venues.
Facilities
6.0
I liked the high-quality amenities like the pool area. but I found that the food options, especially for club lounge guests, were limited and repetitive.

7.2/10
My stay at Athenaeum Intercontinental was pleasant but had some drawbacks. While the service from the staff stood out for its warmth and attentiveness, I found the rooms somewhat outdated, lacking USB ports and modern shower setups. The dining experience, especially breakfast, was a highlight, offering a generous selection, though the location left something to be desired, being in a less appealing neighborhood. Overall, it was a solid stay, but not quite what I expected for a five-star hotel.
Rooms
7.0
The club room was spacious but needed modern touches. The lighting was poor, and the bathroom setup could use an upgrade. While the bed was comfortable, the furniture felt aged.
Service
10.0
The staff were incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to assist with requests. Their service truly enhanced my experience during the stay.
Location
6.0
The hotel's location was a downside. It was in a run-down area, making the walk to the metro rather unpleasant, even though a shuttle was available.
Dining
9.0
Breakfast was fantastic with a variety of options. I especially enjoyed the freshly made omelettes and pastries available each morning.
Facilities
7.0
The hotel had good facilities, but the pool being closed off-season was disappointing. The overall maintenance was decent, though some amenities felt outdated.

My stay at the Athenaeum Intercontinental was mostly enjoyable. The service was really good, and the location offered good accessibility to key points in Athens with a complimentary shuttle to Syntagma Square. However, the area surrounding the hotel felt a bit sketchy at times, and I didn't find the in-house entertainment options satisfactory. Overall, I would recommend this hotel for its amenities and service but advise caution when exploring the neighborhood.
Rooms
8.0
I found my room spacious, light, and airy with a comfortable bed, providing ample space to relax. However, I noticed that some bathrooms were outdated and could use a modern touch.
Service

The staff were incredibly friendly and professional, helping us recover a forgotten baby trolley and with check-in. Their attentiveness made the experience very pleasant.
Location
7.0
The hotel's location is convenient due to the shuttle service into the city. However, caution is needed when exploring the immediate area, as it can feel uninviting and less safe.
Dining
8.0
The breakfast buffet was impressive with a wide selection of quality items. However, I found it pricey, and the limited options in the executive lounge did not compare favorably.
Facilities
7.0
I appreciated the well-maintained gym and pool area for relaxation after sightseeing, but some areas around the pool felt worn and could benefit from upgrades.
